On Thursday 11/25, at 12PM, all who are hungry or who simply wish to connect with their community, are invited to join us in the east parking lot at Lents Park for hot food and community conversations, “Land Back Meal: Generosity Teachings with Local Native American Community!”*

This is an event by the community, for the community, and we could use more support to make it happen! We are still coordinating food/cooking/warm beverages, as well as working to get the word out to folks who might not be on social media or who live outside, so if you’d like to help with either food, volunteering, or promotion, please contact us so we can coordinate!

We’ll also have available free pet food, personal hygiene supplies, warmth/safety supplies, and more. If you’d like to donate anything like socks, blankets, tents, sleeping bags, or other supplies, please DM/contact us so we can coordinate — or just show up!

Lents Heatwave Preparation: Supplies Needed

Lents Heatwave Preparation: Supplies Needed

Call to action 💦🌡 — we’re planning on doing another round of Cooling Station + distribution events this week in the Lents Area — and we could use the following supplies, if anyone wants to drop off anything (DM for address) anytime between now and tomorrow at noon:

-electrolyte drinks (even just a six-pack or whatever you can afford) or powders

-water bottles

-FOOD (anything that’s individually wrapped, like sandwiches, or portioned in ways in which it’s easy to hand out. So far, we have 36 peanut butter&jelly sandwiches; folks who are houseless seem to really appreciate meal-type of things, beyond snacks. Some folks will be hungry and stuck at their camps because it will be too hot to venture out and/or some can’t afford the risk of leaving their belongings behind without someone supervising)

-SNACKS. We could use granola bars, energy bars, nuts… things that are rich in protein, salty, and not too high in sugar.

-FRUIT: people tend to ask for bananas and citrus fruit

-Cooler(s). Collectively, we have about 3-4 coolers but we could use more! Styrofoam coolers are great too because we can drop them off with folks with ice and supplies in them.

-ICE

We could also use sharp containers to leave with folks (Google what can make a good sharp container to see if you have anything around your house that we could repurpose)

If you have ideas for anything else that would bring people comfort in this heat, please ask. We are willing to distribute almost anything that people give us. The schedule for distribution is as follows:

-tomorrow (Wednesday): distribution starting at noon: we’ll be making runs to nearby camps and checking in with folks about their needs, dropping off supplies, and letting them know about the Cooling Station
-Thursday &Friday: Cooling Station at Lents Park, 12-5pm; distribution throughout the day.

Thank you so much, everyone! Hope everyone has a way to stay cool this week, and if you have the bandwidth, please check on your neighbors to ensure they’re safe also!

Supplies Needed at Lents Cooling Station

🌡CALL TO ACTION:

We’ll be hosting another Cooling Station in Lents tomorrow and Friday to help folks cope with the very high temps. As we’ve learned from the last heatwave, we are disproportionately impacted in the Lents area and the lives of many people, including our houseless neighbors, are at risk. We need:
-styrofoam coolers
-ice
-sunscreen SPF 50 or higher
-electrolytes
-water
-non-perishable high protein snacks (salty!)

Can you help? If you can donate any of these supplies, please bring them to Refuge Coffee House today and/or tomorrow, between 1pm and 5pm only*!

Thank you, community, for coming together to support each other!

(*Important: Please don’t drop off donations outside of these hours. We are very thankful to Refuge Coffee Shop for being willing to collect donations for our community and don’t want their space or business overwhelmed, so it’s important to respect that window of time. The Cooling Station will take place at Lents Park, Thursday 7/29 12-5pm and Friday 7/30 12-7pm

Thank you, everyone!!

Hey everyone: if you have extra of the following supplies, please consider donating them in LENTS to help our unhoused neighbors during this record-breaking heatwave:

We need bottled water, electrolyte water/powder, mini-fans + batteries, coolers and ice!

Additionally, we are looking for more CHEST FREEZERS that we can use to store all the drinks and freeze them ahead of distribution, so please reach out if you have a chest freezer that we can use!

We also need to borrow WAGONS to carry the donations our to camps!
